| | | | posted 10/24/2011 Westford Jr. Ghosts B Team 35 vs. Lawrence Hurricanes 6:
The Jr. Ghosts B team secured first place in the Merrimack Valley League and a spot in the playoffs with a convincing win over Lawrence. Westford came out firing on all cylinders. Nick Diamond started the scoring with a tough 6 yard touchdown run after the defense forced a turnover deep in Lawrence territory. On the next drive Westford’s ferocious defense again stopped Lawrence and forced a punt. Fiorillo fielded the punt and streaked 76 yards for a touchdown assisted by great blocking from Ryan Delaney and Nick Regan. Fiorillo added his second PAT kick to widen the gap to 16-0. Westford got the ball back and mounted a 10 play drive culminating with an 11 yard touchdown burst up the middle by Diamond. With the hard-nosed blocking of Andrew Walker, Brian Preiss, Ryan Delaney, Mitchell Rose, and Clay Stocker, Westford went into halftime up 22-0. Westford showed no let- up in the second half, the defense clamped down with strong performances from Eric Jacobsen, Ben Cassidy, and Ben Antes. Fiorillo took another punt back for a 31 yard touchdown, and Delaney ran in the PAT increasing Westford’s lead to 29-0. Lawrence managed to score on a long run in the fourth-quarter making it 29-6. Diamond was not finished as he bulled into the end zone from 4 yards to seal the 35-6 victory. The B team remains undefeated at 7-0. The Jr. Ghosts face Chelmsford on Sunday at WA at 11:00.
Westford Jr. Ghosts D Team 0 vs Lawrence 24:
The Jr. Ghosts D team ran into a tough opponent in Lawrence on Sunday. Westford tried mixing several pass plays with the running game but just couldn’t seem to finish their drives. In the end, they took a 24-0 loss.
The defense played hard all morning. Standouts with big tackles were Tony Roddy, Cole Mazzaferro, Nicholas Antes, Andrew Piedrahita, Nicholas Faretra and Luke Donovan. The defensive line battled hard and was getting pressure up the middle. Leading the way was, Tyler Bella, Joe Klostermann, Zack Prendergast, Jacob Morash, Ryan Reid and Luke Stocker.
The offense was lead by QB’s Justin Dulczewski and Jason Fitzgerald. Both QB’s had to work hard for each yard they gained. The ground game also featured tough runs from Eric Viscione, Alec Morgan, Tyler Bella and Drew Pain. The line blocked well, leading the way was Luke Donovan, Jason Mendonca, Jackson Morgan, Christian Ruggiero, Mathew Acabbo, Nicholas Lofria, and Stephen Donovan. A highlight on offense was a long completion by Dulczewski to Viscione in the 4 th quarter.
The D team plays this coming Sunday at 9:30 against Chelmsford at Westford Academy.
Westford Jr. Ghost E Team 1 vs. Lawrence:
The Jr. Ghost E team went to Lawrence expecting a football game and a hard hitting track meet broke out. All morning the Ghosts and Hurricanes ran up and down the field in an exciting hardnosed contest. The Ghosts began the day on defense and weekly captains Jack Wilson and Kyle Murray made some big tackles. On the Ghosts second play on offense, Mikey Kennedy scampered around the end and raced into the end zone for a Ghost touchdown. Devin Crogan added the extra point. Crogan also scored a touchdown later in the game and recovered a Lawrence fumble forced by Connor Targ on defense. John Burke and Nathan Arsenault also helped to slow the Hurricane rushing attack from their spots on defense. On the next Ghost possession Sean Brown found room to the outside behind Ben Gomez and Justin Lokere and scored a Westford touchdown. Rowan Ruggiero plunged up the middle to score the extra point. Ruggiero also caused a fumble on defense that Sean Kennedy recovered. Center Brian Klostermann made several great snaps and big blocks to spring Devin Crogan for his touchdown. Nathaniel Damiani added one final touchdown for the Jr. Ghosts. Westford will close out the season Sunday at 8am at Westford Academy vs. Chelmsford.
Westford Jr. Ghosts E Team (2) vs Billerica:
Nathan Brown jumped into action to force a fumble on Billerica’s first play from scrimmage. He later pounced on a second Billerica fumble giving Westford the ball. The Billerica Braves were quick with the snap and run, but Conor Montcreaff and Joshua Keith kept pressure on the offense throughout the game. Aidan Breen flew downfield and made a shoe string tackle as he grabbled the ankle of the Billerica runner. Breen later had a spectacular 39 yard run to the 1 yard line. Cole Kirby made several tackles against Billerica to keep the Jr. Ghosts alive in the first half. Aidan Pian, Tom Kennedy and Alex Johnson held the line as the Jr. Ghosts battled throughout the game. Joe Bella dug deep and executed some tight blocks. Anthony Bourassa played strong on offense. Nathan Bourassa took on several Billerica players as he rumbled for a seven yard gain and later came up with a sack on defense. The Jr. Ghosts continued to display their incredible growth as a team. They constantly bring an unrelenting energy and toughness to every game. The Jr. Ghosts will once again put it all on the line for their last game of the season on Sunday versus Chelmsford (2) at Westford at 12:30 p.m.
Westford Jr. Ghosts F Team vs Lawrence:
The Westford F team faced Lawrence for their final game of the season. The Westford offense worked hard to get moving in the first half. Kyle Weldon and Michael “The Punisher” Picanso teamed up to secure the heart of the Westford offensive line. Evan Montgomery sealed off the defensive end and fullback, Niall Copp, made a key lead block that allowed Dean Linden to scamper for a first down. While still recovering from an illness, Drew Wilson showed incredible toughness on the field. Linden had a Ben Watson like tackle and rocketed 30 yards downfield to bring the ball carrier to the ground. In his much anticipated season debut, T.J. Kane had a strong lead bock that sprung quarterback Luke Fremault for a nice gain. Nick Russo was relentless with the ball, dragging multiple tacklers before going down. On defense, Sean Donoghue surged off the d-line while Tyler Schutt and Tanner Whitehouse chased down the opposing ball carriers. The highlight of the day came when Fremault hauled in the team’s first interception of the year on the final play of the game! The Westford coaches and parents are extremely proud of an F team that showed undeniable heart and courage for the entire 2011 season.

The Jr. Ghosts B team showed amazing fight in a come from behind 8-6 win versus a tough Acton Boxboro team. It all came down to the fourth quarter. Westford’s offense had the ball on their side of the field with less than two minutes left on the clock. Down 6-2 the Jr. Ghosts needed to score. Connor Degenhardt executed two key pass completions. The first, a third down and long completion to Eric Jacobsen who made a spectacular catch at the first down marker to keep the drive alive. On fourth and ten Degenhardt connected with Jonathan Glidden behind the Colonials defense for a 66 yard go-ahead touchdown. The Westford defense held Acton Boxboro’s offense at bay all afternoon. The defense was led by Nick Diamond who was all over the field racking up 15 tackles. Nick Fiorillo, Nick Regan, Clay Stocker, and Daniel Koerner spearheaded the defensive effort, along with Mitch Rose who made a key interception and Ryan Delaney with two sacks. The Jr. Ghosts B team remains undefeated. They are executing on both sides of the ball and all players on the team are providing solid contributions. Westford will play at Lawrence on Sunday at 12:30.
Westford Jr. Ghosts D Team 0 vs. Acton Boxboro 28
Despite a stand out effort, the Jr. Grey Ghosts football team fell short to Acton-Boxboro this past Sunday morning. Acton-Boxborowas successful putting points on the board but this didn’t deter the effort from the Jr. Ghosts. Justin Dulczewski and Jason Fitzgerald showed solid performances running the ball behind an outstanding offensive line. Paving the way for the ground attack was Luke Donovan, Jacob Gross, Christian Ruggiero and Lucas Laroche. Hard work form Zack Prendergast, Jackson Morgan, Tyler Bella and Tony Roddy kept the Acton-Boxboro defense honest all day.
The defense played aggressive all morning with hard hits by Joseph Klostermann, Jakob Simas, and Drew Pian. During several Acton-Boxborodrives, Andrew Piedrahita and Ryan Reid made punishing open field tackles, which slowed the Acton-Boxborooffense. Cole Mazzaferro, Jason Mendonca and Nick Antes also made outstanding tackles while time ran out in the half.
In the second half Justin Dulczewski continued to make plays. The play of the day was a nine-yard pass from Dulczewski to Zack Prendergast. The offense refused to quit with great performances by players like Matthew Accabo, Garrett Ackerman and Eric Viscione. Despite the loss, the Jr. Ghosts played hard to the very end and look forward to their game on Sunday at 9:30 am at Lawrence’s Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Westford Jr. Ghosts E Team 1 vs. Acton Boxboro:
Webster defines “test” as, “the trial of the quality of something.” The something in question on Sunday was the Jr. Ghost E team 1. The division 1 Colonials came to town Sunday and found a Ghost team that refused to quit. The first half opened with the Colonial offense marching down the field. When the Ghosts had their chance to rebut, they made a bold statement. After charging down the field in a no huddle offense, the Ghosts saw Sean Brown fly into the end zone behind some great blocking from weekly captain, Ben Gomez. Rowan Ruggiero added the point after and the Ghosts were rolling. When Acton was on offense, they were bothered all day long in the backfield by weekly captain Connor Targ and Sean Kennedy. Mikey Kennedy also chipped in on defense as he caused and recovered an Acton fumble. Sean Brown also caused a fumble that Devin Crogan pounced on. Kyle Murray also added great defense on the outside keeping the Acton backs in the middle of the field. So, with their “quality” being tested, the Jr. Ghosts showed no quit and passed with flying colors. They kick off again Sunday 8am at Veterans Stadium in Lawrence.
Westford Jr. Ghosts E Team (2) vs. Melrose E Team (2):
Westford Jr. Ghosts kicked off to start the game and immediately stuffed the Melrose return for no gain. Nathan Brown and Mike Morash made the first tackle assisted by Joseph Bella. Joshua Keith was instrumental in keeping the Melrose team at bay with strong play on defense. Aidan Breen ran all over the field to push the quick Melrose runners out of bounds. The Westford did a phenomenal job holding back the Melrose rushing attack. Joshua Keith and Craig Palmer had some great tackles and forced Melrose out of bounds at the five yard line. Aidan Breen and Aidan Pian stuffed Melrose on the 10 yard line as the defense dug in deeper. Nathan Bourassa made a great catch on special teams and returned the ball for over 30 yards. Anthony Bourassa played quarterback and handed off to Nathan Bourassa to pick up some important yards for the Jr. Ghosts. Cole Kirby and Thomas Kennedy both made run stuffing tackles that stopped Melrose for no gain. Westford Jr. Ghosts E Team (2) team will play Billerica at Chelmsford on Sunday at 9:30 am.
Westford Jr. Ghosts F Team vs West Lynn:
The Jr. Ghosts took their home field with a bang as they blasted through a banner made by their cheerleaders. The Jr. Ghosts faced a very skilled West Lynn team. Westford quickly denied West Lynn’s pass attempts with pressure from Tanner Whitehouse and Evan Montgomery and a critical pass deflection by Dean Linden. It was just a matter of time until the Westford offense got rolling with Linden breaking loose for a 30 yard touchdown run. West Lynn was tough to contain on offense, but Westford defenders Niall Copp and Michael Picanso answered the call and made some great tackles. West Lynn had a long run downfield, but Tyler Schutt chased down the ball carrier and made a spectacular diving tackle that saved a touchdown for the second week in a row. The Jr. Ghosts came out at half time with a lot of energy and some fresh eye black on their faces. They looked tough and played tough. Nick Russo dug in at center and was flanked by Kyle Weldon and Sean Donoghue who made some critical blocks in the second half. Luke Fremault handed off to Drew Wilson for a 35 yard touchdown for the final score of the game. Westford plays their next game at Billerica on Sunday at 10:00 am.

Westford Jr. Ghosts B Team 22 vs. Lowell 0
The Jr. Ghosts B team came away with a big win in Lowell Sunday, shutting the Raiders out 22-0. The Jr. Ghosts dominated play on both sides of the ball. Westford’s high potent offense amassed 11 first downs while rushing for 107 total yards. Mitch Rose scored early in the first quarter by powering the ball into the endzone from the one yard line. Nick Fiorillo extended Westford’s lead by scampering in from 9 yards out on a swing pass from Connor Degenhardt. Nick Regan led the team with a total of 58 rushing yards and scored Westford’s third touchdown on a 46 yard sweep around the right end. Ben Cassidy added the PAT with a kick through the uprights, ending the half 20-0. The defense was led by Nick Diamond with 11 tackles. Clay Stocker, Eric Jacobson, Blake Mazzaferro, and Ryan Delaney also contributed with key defensive plays. With Lowell trying to get back in the game, Matt Tabor broke up a deep pass attempt from his free safety position. Westford’s scoring was capped off when Trevor Faretra tackled a Lowell runner in his own end zone for a safety. The Jr. Ghosts B team will play Acton-Boxboro on Sunday at 11:00 at Westford Academy.
Westford Jr. Ghosts D Team 12 vs. Lowell 6
The JrPeeWee Ghosts came out fired up at Cawley Stadium and defeated Lowell Sunday. 12-6. The Jr Ghosts ran the ball well and made key stops on defense all morning. Cole Mazzaferro took the opening lick off 40 yards to set up the 1st scoring drive. The offense was lead again by QB’s Jason Fitzgerald and Justin Dulczewski. Both QB’s had runs for long gains. Justin scored both touchdowns on bootleg runs behind great blocking up front. The ground attack was also lead by punishing runs from Eric Viscione, Alec Morgan and Drew Pain. The line blocked well lead by Luke Donovan, Jason Mendonca, Lawrence Ruggerio, Mathew Acabbo, Nicholas Lofria, Jacob Morash, Ryan Reid, and Cameron Ciulla.
This game was about the defense, which was outstanding all day. Making several punishing tackles were Nicholas Antes, Andrew Piedrahita, Nicholas Faretra and Garrett Ackerman making several tackles in the Lowell backfield. The defensive line dominated lead by Luke Donovan, Tyler Bella, Joe Klostermann, Zack Prendergast, and Luke Stocker. Sealing the win was a great interception by Jakob Simas late in the 4th quarter. The JrPeeWee’s play this coming Sunday 9:30 against Acton/Boxboro at Westford Academy.
Westford Jr. Ghosts E Team 1 vs. Lowell Red Raiders
Defense and some timely big plays were the difference on this warm Sunday morning as the Ghosts and Red Raiders lined up in Lowell. When Lowell first got the ball, the Westford defense made several swarming gang tackles. Mason Materazzo and brother Jake Materazzo, the two weekly captains really stepped up to help prevent any Red Raider first downs. When the Ghost offense took the field, they began a long march down field. Ben Gomez blocked tough and made sure the outside was wide open for Westford’s backfield. Nathaniel Damiani connected with Sean Brown for the Ghost’s first passing touchdown of the season. Back on defense Brian Ellis and John Barlow made hard hits and great tackles all over the field. The Ghost offense took over and led by some long runs down field by Mikey Kennedy, scored a touchdown as Devin Crogan blasted his way in. Rowan Ruggiero added the point after. As the game’s end drew near, Jack Wilson made plays on both defense and offense as he tackled and blocked with tough determination. Sean Brown added a touchdown on one of his patented “heart stopper” runs to close out the scoring. Westford returns home Sunday to face Acton Boxboro at 8am.
Westford Jr. Ghosts E Team (2) vs. Billerica Indians. (3)
Peter Bonenfant showed tremendous skill and agility throughout the hot and steamy game as center. Tom Kennedy held down the left side of the line at left tackle. Michael Morash has several runs at running back and battled through a host of green jerseys to pound out gains. Craig Palmer kept the heat on Billerica and made some key plays as he shoved Billerica players out of bounds. Conor Montcreaff, Aidan Pian, Matthew Haggan and Alex Johnson all dug in deep and worked hard in the trenches all day. On offense, Matthew Haggan held off the Billerica rush giving the Westford quarterbacks some precious time to execute their plays. Joshua Keith came up big as he made multiple third down tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Josef Messenheimer also stepped up to deny a Billerica first down attempt. Nate Bourassa left it all on the field and made important tackles all day. Joseph Bella and Aidan Breen led the Junior Ghosts at quarterback and never kept answering the call against a determined Billerica defense. Two of the biggest highlights of the game were from Nathan Brown who leapt off the line in back to back plays to sack the quarterback. The Junior Ghosts will take on Melrose next Sunday at Westford at 12:30 p.m.
Westford Jr. Ghosts F Team vs Billerica
Westford was led onto the field by weekly captains Tyler Schutt, Evan Montgomery and Sean Donoghue. When the Jr. Ghosts got the ball, Dean Linden cruised around the outside for a 40 yard touch down. Westford took over on defense and Niall Copp made a touchdown saving tackle for Westford. Sean Donoghue was quick off the defensive line and initiated a gang tackle with Tyler Schutt behind the line of scrimmage. Tanner Whitehouse blasted through the line of scrimmage and chased down the Billerica runner to make a great tackle. Nick Russo continued to fire off at outside line backer and swarmed to the ball. In the second half, Kyle Weldon led the Jr. Ghosts at QB and took charge of the offense. Drew Wilson was all over the field on defense and scored on 40+ yard run with some great blocking by Evan Montgomery. Luke Fremault was a consistent force on defense making some great tackles for Westford. Michael Picanso had a punishing 5 yard run as he trucked through the line of scrimmage. The Jr. Ghosts play their only home game on Sunday at Stonybrook at 10:30 am vs West Lynn.

The Jr. Ghosts continued their winning ways in a hard fought battle against the Wayland-Weston Warriors. The Jr. Ghosts pulled out to an early lead after Connor Degenhardt hit a streaking Jonathan Glidden behind the Wayland safety for a 25 yard touchdown. Nick Diamond added the PAT. The Warriors then reached pay dirt with a long 10 play drive ending with a 2 yard run for a score. They added a kick for the PAT to take the lead. Westford was far from done as Degenhardt found Eric Jacobsen alone down the left sideline for a long touchdown pass to regain the lead 13-8. Westford’s defense led by Nick Diamond (15 tackles) and Ben Cassidy (12 tackles) quickly got the ball back. Matt Tabor rolled left and hit Nick Fiorillo in the flat. Fiorillo broke numerous tackles on his way into the end zone making it 19-8. The Warriors scored one more time on a long pass bringing the score to 19-16. The Westford offense took over grinding out 2 first downs to run out the clock and ensure the win. The defensive charge was spear-headed by Nick Regan, Mitch Rose, Clay Stocker, and Trevor Faretra. The Jr. Ghosts are on the road Sunday playing the Raiders at 12:30 in Lowell.
Westford Jr. Ghosts E Team 20 vs. Wayland-Weston Warriors 24
The Jr. Ghostswent in ready for battle when they squared off Sunday against Wayland. The Warriors scored early in the game but Westford stuffed the extra point attempt. Great tackles by Tony Roddy, Jacob Morash and Lucas Laroche let Wayland know they were in for a long day. On the following Westford drive, Jason Fitzgerald connected with Jacob Gross for a 25-yard gain. The Ghosts Continued to march down field behind blocks from Zack Prendergast, Matthew Accabo, Christian Ruggiero and Tony Roddy, but the Ghosts came away with empty handed. Wayland scored again but Westford quickly responded with a Jason Fitzgerald touchdown made possible with blocks from Eric Viscione, Cole Mazzaferro, Stephen Donovan and Nick Antes. Wayland marched down the field but was denied on the Westford 10 yard line. As soon as the Ghosts got the ball back they converted a touchdown play with Tyler Bella running the ball 90 yards into Wayland’s end zone. The half ended with a score of Westford 13, Wayland 12. Wayland started the second half with a touchdown that put them ahead but Westford bounced right back with a 25-yard touchdown from Fitzgerald . The extra point following the touchdown was good and Westford had the lead. Solid blocks from Alec Morgan, Ryan Reid, Jason Mendonca and Jackson Morgan allowed Nick Faretra to catch the pass in the end zone. Solid play kept the game close but Wayland scored as time ran out on Westford.

Westford Jr. Ghosts E Team 1 vs. Wayland Weston Warriors
The rain stayed away for most of a Sunday that saw two evenly matched E teams go to battle at Trustee’s Field at Westford Academy. The Ghost defense took the field first and had some great defensive stops. Lokere recovered a fumble for Westford, which gave them the ball deep in their own territory. Captain for the week, quarterback Nathaniel Damiani, took the Ghosts on a 95 yard drive that ended in the end zone when Rowan Ruggiero pounded the ball in from 1 yard out. The Warriors wouldn’t be denied however, and matched the Ghosts stride for stride. Jon Burke and weekly captain Brian Klostermann were a force for the Ghosts on defense. As the second half began, Connor Targ capitalized on a Warrior fumble to give the Ghosts the ball. The Ghost offense marched down the field and shifty back Sean Brown broke a host of tackles on his way to pay dirt. As the game neared the end, Robbie Raboin stripped the ball from Wayland and Devin Crogan pounced on it to give the Ghosts one final try to score. The Ghosts executed an impressive no huddle, two minute offense but ultimately, ran out of time. The E team 1 travels north this Sunday to Lowell to take on the Red Raiders at 8am at Cawley Stadium.
Westford Jr. Ghosts E Team (2) vs. Wayland-Weston
Aidan Breen got the offense started with the first carry of the game. On defense, Brendan Riordan leaped into action with a strong tackle. Joseph Bella’s tight coverage helped to contain the Wayland-Weston receivers. Wayland-Weston managed to score the first touchdown of the game, but a determined Craig Palmer denied the extra point. Mike Morash grinded out some tough runs for Westford. Nathan Brown, Cole Kirby and Joseph Bella showed outstanding speed and agility as they tackled the Weston-Wayland runners and Aidan Breen had several tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Nathan Brown had a big day on defense recovering a key fumble and sacking the opposing quarterback for a loss of 8 yards. Joshua Keith kept pounding the ball at the Wayland-Weston defense in the second half. Craig Palmer stuffed a Wayland-Weston runner and recovered the ball for Westford. Nathan Bourassa had the highlight of the day with an incredible 90 yard run and touchdown. The Junior Ghosts E Team (2) will play at Billerica next Sunday at 12:30.
Westford Jr. Ghosts F Team vs Billerica F Team (2)
The F team came to the field ready to play their second game of the season. The Jr. Ghosts started on defense with Dean Linden making tackles from sideline to sideline and Tyler Schutt sprinting downfield to make a touchdown saving tackle at the one yard line. Weekly captain, Kyle Weldon, led the Jr. Ghosts offense onto the field as they powered towards the end zone. Weekly captain Niall Copp stiff-armed his way around several tacklers for a big gain. Linden brought the crowd to their feet with two dramatic first half touchdowns. The Westford defense swarmed the Billerica ball carriers with Tanner Whitehouse and Evan Montgomery controlling the line of scrimmage. The Westford offense continued to push the ball in the second half. Billerica’s tacklers bounced off weekly captain, Drew Wilson, as he romped for 25 yards deep into Billerica territory. Michael Picanso thundered into the end zone for another Westford touchdown. Westford’s defense had a strong second half with Sean Donoghue and Luke Fremault battling off blocks to tackle the Billerica ball carriers. Weekly captain, Nick Russo, made key blocks throughout the game and cut through the Billerica defense for a gain of several yards. The F team will travel to Billerica next week to play Chelmsford at 8:00 am.

Westford Jr. Ghosts B Team 28 vs. Concord-Carlisle 0
The Jr. Ghosts B team boosts their record to 3-0 with a convincing 28-0 win over the Concord-Carlisle Patriots. The defense pitched a shutout led by Nick Diamond’s twelve tackles. Ben Antes, Ryan Delaney, and Ben Smrtic also had clutch stops for the defense. Dan Koerner knocked down a key fourth down pass, stopping a drive. In the Jr. Ghosts opening series, Connor Degenhardt put Westford on the board with a nine yard roll out for a touchdown. He continued the offensive attack with two touchdown passes before the end of the first half, connecting with Nick Fiorillo for an eight yard strike and hitting Jonathan Glidden down the seam for a 26 yard pay dirt reception. Nick Regan also helped lead the offense, rushing for 84 yards and scoring one touchdown and two PATs. The offensive surge was keyed by hard-nosed blocking by Andrew Walker, Mitch Rose, Clay Stocker, and Brian Preiss. The B team will face a tough test as they match up against Wayland next Sunday at 11:00 at Westford Academy.
Westford Jr. Ghosts D Team 20 vs. Concord Carlisle 0
The Jr. Ghosts played great in their first home game! The Concord Carlisle Patriots started the game with the ball. The defense stayed strong against the Patriots with key tackles made by Nick Antes, Eric Viscione, Jacob Simas and Luke Stocker. Westford got the ball back as Tyler Bella completed a run for 2 yards followed by Justin Dulczewski making the play for the first down. Hard work from the offense led to an Eric Viscione touchdown for Westford. The following Westford kick off set the tone for the game when Christian Ruggiero met the ball carrier with a punishing hit to stop the advance. Westford’s next drive led to a fearless run for a touchdown by Jason Fitzgerald. The extra point by Viscione was good, giving Westford a 14-0 lead. Concord Carlisle could do nothing against the Ghost defense that was fueled by plays from Luke Donovan and Dulczewski. Westford scored another touchdown late in the half to increase the lead to 20-0. Another outstanding play from Nick Antes on special teams sent Concord Carlisle into half time with no points. Cole Mazzaferro, Drew Pian, Joe Klostermann, Andrew Piedrahita, and Garrett Ackerman played with focus and kept Concord Carlisle on their heels all day. The Patriots played hard but couldn’t contain the play of Steve Donovan and Jason Mendonca. With solid running from Alec Morgan and Tyler Bella making hits in the backfield, time ran out and Westford earned a memorable home victory. The D team will play this coming Sunday 9:30 against Wayland at Westford Academy.
Westford Jr. Ghost E Team 1 vs. Concord Carlisle Patriots
The new turf field at Westford Academy proved to be friendly grounds for the Jr. Ghosts this past Sunday. The Ghost offense began a long march to the end zone behind center Sean Kennedy and the rest of the offensive line. Weekly captain Sean Brown found room around the end to score his first of two touchdowns on the day. Connor Targ and Brian Klostermann led the way for the Ghost defense on the following Patriot possession and got the ball back for the Jr. Ghosts offense. After a couple of possession changes, Nathaniel Damiani scored his first touchdown of the season following crushing blocks by weekly captain Rowan Ruggiero out of the backfield. Sean Brown added the point after to cap off an impressive scoring drive. The third weekly captain Mikey Kennedy helped keep Concord from moving the ball and the Ghosts were back on offense. Kyle Murray and Jake Materazzo helped pave the way for Brown’s second score and Nathan Arsenault added the point after. The Wayland Warriors come to Westford Academy Sunday at 8am.
Westford Jr. Ghosts E Team 2 vs. Billerica E Team 2
It was a steamy Sunday afternoon when the Westford Jr. Ghosts took the field for their home opener at Westford Academy. Billerica scored first and kicked off to Aiden Breen who picked up several yards on a nice return. The Jr. Ghosts dug in deep against Billerica and were determined to hold them back. Nate Bourassa chased down a Billerica ball carrier made an excellent downfield tackle. Nicholas Manzi and Aidan Breen both made clutch, drive stopping tackles for Westford. Craig Palmer blasted through Billerica’s blockers and stuffed their running back on a critical down. Nathan Brown made a big tackle that pinned Billerica on their 5 yard line. The Jr. Ghost offense refused to give up and kept pounding away at the Billerica defense. Brown made a breath taking catch on an Aiden Breen pass to gain some important yards for Westford. Nathaniel Bourassa highlighted a Westford drive when he raced into the end zone for the Jr. Ghosts only touchdown. Westford’s Jr. Ghosts E team 2 will play Wayland-Weston at Westford on Sunday October 2nd at 12:30 p.m

Westford Jr. Ghosts B Team 25 vs. Dracut 0:
The Jr. Ghosts B Team looked tough in a 25-0 shutout win against the Dracut Middies. The defense stopped the Middies spread offense time and time again and allowed only two Dracut first downs all day. Nick Diamond led the way with 12 tackles. Clay Stocker, Blake Mazzaferro, Mitch Rose, and Trevor Faretra also made clutch tackles. Ryan Delaney came up big twice with knocked down passes. Nick Fiorillo had a 30 yard pick six interception. Matt Tabor and Eric Jacobsen also had key interceptions. Offensively, Fiorillo scored 3 of the teams 4 touchdowns. Early in the first quarter he caught a swing pass from Connor Degenhardt to put the Ghosts on the scoreboard. Nick Regan ran the ball in for the extra point. Later Fiorillo took a handoff and ran around the left end untouched for the Ghosts second score. The second half opened with an impressive 68 yard kick-off return by Ben Cassidy who broke many tackles on his way into the end zone. The Jr. Ghosts B Team looks like a force to be reckoned with this season in the Merrimack Valley Conference. The B Team plays Concord-Carlisle at Westford Academy next Sunday at 11:00.
Westford Jr. Ghosts D Team 0 vs Dracut 6:
The Jr. Ghosts D team displayed an impressive defensive battle with Dracut Sunday. 0-0 in regulation, each team took turns to score from the 10-yard line. Dracut managed a controversial score on their second OT attempt, winning 0-6. The boys fought hard and were so close to their first win.
The defense was outstanding all day. Andrew Piedrahita had a monster game, making several tackles in the Dracut backfield. Also having big games on defense were Luke Donovan, Cole Mazzaferro and Jakob Simas. Making plays all day were; Zack Prendergast, Nicholas Faretra, Tyler Bella, Lawrence Ruggerio, Jacob Gross, Luke Stocker, Ryan Reid, Tony Roddy, Lucas Laroche, and Stephen Donovan.
The offense took to the air lead again by QB’s Jason Fitzgerald and Justin Dulczewski. Mixing in more pass plays, they had completions to Mazzaferro, Prendergast and Drew Pian. Westford balanced the attack on the ground with runs by Nicholas Antes, Eric Viscione, Bella, Fitzgerald, Dulczewski, and Alec Morgan. The offensive line is coming together. Jason Mendonca, Mathew Acabbo, Nicholas Lofria, Garrett Ackerman, Jacob Morash, Cameron Ciulla, Jackson Morgan, and Joe Klostermann provided strong blocking. The D team will play next Sunday at 9:30 am against Concord/Carlisle at Westford Academy.
Westford Jr. Ghosts E Team (1) vs Dracut:
The Westford E 1 Jr. Ghosts rode a wave of momentum into Dracut on Sunday and met a Middies team equal to the task. The first half proved to be a defensive battle with weekly captains Brian Ellis and Robbie Raboin making several great tackles on defense. Rowan Ruggiero also made some big play saving tackles from the middle linebacker spot. Westford found the end zone however when the third captain for the week, Devin Crogan refused to go down and broke several tackles on his way to score the lone touchdown for the Jr. Ghosts. In the second half, Jack Wilson, John Barlow and Ben Gomez also made key stops to keep Dracut in check. The E 1 Jr. Ghosts open the home schedule on the new turf at Westford Academy Sunday at 8am when the Concord Carlisle Patriots come to town.
Westford Jr. Ghosts E Team (2) vs. Dracut:
Joshua Keith received the opening kick off and had a spectacular 65 yard run to bring the Westford Mitey Mites (2) to their first exciting touchdown. Nicholas Manzi turned up the heat and displayed his abilities at running back. Westford’s defense managed to hold Dracut back with some tough tackling by Aidan Pian, Craig Palmer, Joseph Bella and Michael Morash. The defensive line with Brendan Riordan and Conor Moncreaff stuffed the Dracut running attack on many plays. A big tackle by Craig Palmer foiled a Dracut touchdown attempt deep in Westford’s territory. Cole Kirby had a great attempt at 1st down. Joshua Keith showed his skills at quarterback and assisted on multiple tackles on defense. Nathaniel Bourassa ran in a second touchdown and made a key fumble recovery for Westford. The Westford Mitey Mites E Team (2) will play at home next week vs Billerica at 12:30 pm.
Westford Jr. Ghosts F Team vs Dracut:The Westford Tiny Mites (F-Team) kicked off their season with an exciting game against Dracut. Led by linebackers Luke Fremault and Drew Wilson and free safety Dean Linden, the Westford defense shut down Dracut’s offense in the first half. The trio eluded blocks and made key tackles all over the field. Tanner Whitehouse and Evan Montgomery battled all day at defensive tackle and blasted through the line of scrimmage on multiple plays. Michael Picanso was a force on with line of scrimmage with his physical play on both sides of the ball. Kyle Weldon showed his versatility with strong play at five different positions. Niall Copp and Tyler Schutt excelled at outside linebacker and disrupted the Dracut offense. Dean Linden ignited the Westford offense leading both teams in rushing and scoring on two incredible touchdown runs. Nick Russo and Sean Donoghue anchored the offensive line that held their ground against a strong Dracut defensive front. The 5 and 6 year old Jr. Ghosts were very excited after their first game and celebrated with their friends and families on the Westford sideline. The Jr. Ghosts take on Dorchester next Saturday at 12:45 pm at Billerica.

1. Westford Jr. Ghosts B Team 20 vs. Billerica 14:
The B Team opened their season with an exciting overtime win in Billerica. Down 14-0 with five minutes left in the game, Westford drove the ball across mid-field and on a key third down pass where Matt Tabor hit Nick Fiorillo down the middle to score. The Jr. Ghost defense led by Nick Diamond quickly regained possession. Down 14-6 with seconds left on the clock, Connor Degenhardt lofted a pass from Billerica’s 21yard line to the left corner of the end zone and Jonathan Glidden snagged it for the score. Westford needed to kick the extra point to tie up the game. Eric Jacobsen was up to the task and kicked it through the uprights under heavy pressure to force overtime. On the first possession of overtime Westford punched it in with a hard run to pay dirt by Ben Cassidy. It was now Billerica’s turn. The defense came up with a huge stop causing a fumble that Fiorillo recovered to win the game. The Westford defense played a great game led by Diamond’s 16 tackles and two caused fumbles. Ryan Delaney with 6 tackles and Ben Antes with 5 tackles also had strong games. The B team plays Dracut at Dracut High School next Sunday at 12:30.
2. Westford Jr. Ghosts D Team 6 vs. Billerica 20:
The Jr. Ghosts fought hard in a loss against Billerica Sunday morning. The offense was lead at QB by Justin Dulczewski and Jason Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald had a great end around run in the first half for the Ghosts first touchdown of the season. Tyler Bella, Eric Viscione, Alec Morgan and Dulczewski ran the ball well behind solid play up front by blockers Luke Donovan, Nicholas Lofria, Garrett Ackerman, Jacob Morash, Cameron Ciulla, Joe Klostermann, Mathew Acabbo and Ryan Reid.
The defense played well and had big plays from Jacob Gross, Tony Roddy, Lucas Laroche, Jason Mendonca, Drew Pian, Andrew Piedrahita and Luke Stocker. Making punishing tackles were Zack Prendergast, Stephen Donovan, Nicholas Faretra, Nicholas Antes, Cole Mazzaferro, and Lawrence Ruggerio. Getting into the backfield to sack the QB were Cole Mazzaferro, Andrew Piedrahita and Justin Dulczewski. Tyler Bella forced a fumble that was recovered by the Ghosts late in the game.
The Westford D team will play this coming Sunday 9:30 at Dracut.
3. Westford Jr. Ghosts E Team (1) vs Billerica:
Westford E-Team (1) started the day off against the Billerica Cherokees with the ball. The Ghost offense began a time consuming drive into Billerica territory and found the end zone when quarterback Mikey Kennedy followed captains of the week, Justin Lokere and John Burke to pay dirt. The conversion failed and the Ghost defense took the field. Mason Materazzo and Brian Klostermann made several stops on the tough Cherokee running backs, but couldn’t keep them from scoring. Nate Arsenault led the Ghost offense on their second drive. The Ghosts drove deep into Billerica territory, but came up short. Billerica’s following drive resulted in a score despite the hardnosed tackling of the third captain of the week John Barlow. The Ghost defense came out for the second half and immediately caused a turnover when Devin Crogan pounced on a Cherokee fumble. Crogan wasted little time in capitalizing as he and the ghost offense once again found pay dirt. The Ghost defense got the ball right back and the offense hit a long run by Sean Brown to score the final touchdown. The Ghosts kick off again Sunday at 8 am at Dracut against the Middies.
4. Westford Jr Ghosts E Team (2) vs. Wakefield:
Westford’s E Team (2) arrived at their first game ready to play. Anthony Bourassa ignited the team by making one of the first big tackles of the game. Another exciting play came when Nathaniel Bourassa ran like the wind to get the Jr. Ghosts to Wakefield’s one yard line. The first half was filled with strong tackles from Aidan Breen and Joseph Bella who were all over the field. Joshua Keith forced a Wakefield fumble and Aidan Breen recovered the ball for the Jr. Ghosts. The second half highlights included many strong tackles by Craig Palmer and an exciting tackle by Nathan Brown with a slew of Wakefield players on his tail. Nathaniel Bourassa scored the game’s only touchdown with an impressive 50 yard run. It was an exciting and encouraging first game for Westford’s E Team (2).
